Introduction

Bordering Soho and Little Italy in Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood, Baz Bagel specializes in fresh, hand-rolled bagels and flagels (flatter, wider bagels). Made by hand the old-fashioned way, they embody all the flavor and character that make the New York specialties legendary.

About The Food

Everything you love about a good bagel can be found in each and every Baz bagel. Made in small batches with dough that’s allowed to rise slowly, rolled by hand, boiled and cooked in a classic rotating-tray oven on burlap-covered boards, they’re crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside, and utterly memorable for their rich, tangy taste. Thinner and smaller with a pronounced hole in the middle, they’re everything the famed NY bagel used to be. Their flagels (flatter, wider bagels with more crust ratio) and bagel chips are made with the same integrity and care.

Meet The Owner

Leave it to a New York restaurant pro to bring the quickly disappearing authentic New York bagel back from obscurity. Owner Bari Musacchio, a former manager at popular downtown pizza joint, Rubirosa, couldn’t help but found the business after lamenting there were no respectable bagels to be found in the neighborhood. Now she's reviving one of New York’s greatest food treasures to its former glory.

Over-puffed, machine-made bagels run rampant in NYC, but authentic iterations have been hard to find — until now.

Tasting Table

Musacchio’s operation is, like in the olden days, small-batch and labor-intensive: Slow-rising dough rings are set on burlap-covered boards and given a spin in a rotating tray oven, resulting in springy-yet-crusty vehicles for the house nova-and-chive spread.

Storage & Care

Baz Bagels are baked fresh daily. After a short cooling period, the bagels are packed, sealed and shipped immediately for delivery the next day. We strongly recommend warming or toasting your bagels, per the instructions below:

Eating your bagels the day they arrive? Warming Instructions (recommended): Preheat your oven to 300°F and heat the bagels on an open rack for 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and lightly toast to your preference and spread with soft butter or your favorite shmear! (Bagels can also be sliced and placed directly in the toaster).

Saving your bagels for later? Freeze your bagels immediately upon arrival. To defrost, leave your bagels out at room temp for 2-3 hours or overnight. Preheat your oven to 300°F and heat the bagels on an open rack for 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and lightly toast to your preference and spread with soft butter or your favorite shmear! (Bagels can also be sliced and placed directly in the toaster).

Note: Bagels can be frozen for up to a month but are best enjoyed within 1-2 weeks.
