Introduction

Frog Hollow Farm is a thriving 143-acre organic farm located in Brentwood, California that’s been in business for over 40 years. They are located a hop, skip and a jump east of San Francisco in the fertile Sacramento River Delta (about an hour's drive). The farm is home to hundreds of trees which produce stone fruit like peaches, nectarines, cherries, apricots, apriums, plums, pluots, Asian and European pears, olives, persimmons, quince, apples and more. Their fruit is all organic and their farming practices are all sustainable. They experiment with planting new varieties to find out what their legendary soil will support. You can taste the difference in their legendary fruit.

About The Food

Frog Hollow is certified organic with C.C.O.F. (California Certified Organic Farmers) and committed to sustainable practices. Sustainability is an important value that Farmer Al has embraced since choosing to go organic in 1989. They steward their land with care and believe in treading lightly, so not only is the world a better, healthier place, but your neighbors and family are, too. In addition to their growing operations, they believe in sustainable labor practices. Unlike most farms, Frog Hollow provides year-round employment. They tend to their trees and harvest their fruit by hand, and have a commercial kitchen on premises that turns some of their legendary fruit into jams and baked goods.

Meet The Owner

Wearing his signature overalls and surrounded by boxes of his legendary fruit, “Farmer Al” Courchesne has been a welcome sight at farmers’ markets around the Bay Area for over 30 years. And just like his peaches, Al is homegrown. Born in Louisiana and raised in Berkeley and El Cerrito, he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in anthropology. Shortly afterwards, he moved to Hawaii to teach at the Punahou School. There, he discovered his love of farming and grew lettuce and tomatoes for two years before returning to the Bay Area. He planted his first peach orchard in Brentwood in 1976 and throughout his farming career, Farmer Al has been a vigorous advocate for sustainable land use, conservation, and organic farming practices. Al lives on the farm with his wife Becky, their two daughters Maddie and Millie, and their ever-present dog Noci.

Storage & Care

Dry Goods

Frog Hollow does not put expiration or use by dates on their products. Store all bags, tins, and unopened jars in a cool, dry place for maximum shelf life. Once opened, all conserves, chutneys, marmalades, or fruit sauces must be refrigerated.

Fresh Fruit

When your Frog Hollow Farm box arrives, remove your fruit from its packaging. When you are planning to consume or cook with, rinse your fruit under the tap with a gentle scrub with your fingers. Nearly all fruit be ready to eat upon arrival or within a few days. With the exception of cherries, most fruits should not be kept refrigerated. Apricots, Apriums, Peaches, Nectarines, Plums & Pluots (stone fruits): Best stored at room temperature. They are ripe when yielding gently to the touch and will not ripen further if put in cold storage. If your apricots, apriums, peaches, nectarines, plums or pluots are not yielding to the touch upon arrival, leave them away from direct sunlight on a countertop or table.European Pears & Asian Pears (comice fruits): Pears will continue to ripen and can withstand refrigeration better than summer stone fruits. Refrigerate if desired in a plastic bag.
