Janie’s Cakes, a small bakery in Tyler, Texas is home to the most delicious, moist, old-fashioned pound cakes around. Owned and operated by Janie Clapp, it’s founded on the fundamentals of old-school baking: crafting delicious baked goods daily from scratch, using nothing but the best, freshest all-natural ingredients, and relying on family recipes handed down through generations. Beautiful yellow and white striped packaging—tied with a blue ribbon—makes Janie’s Cakes as worthy of gifting as they are starring at your dinner table, which explains why Southern Living and Country Living can’t get enough of them.

About The Food

Janie’s Cakes focuses solely on pound cake, allowing them to become true masters at the art of impossibly moist and delicious bundt-shaped desserts in flavors that range from grandma’s favorites to next-generation combinations. But regardless of whether she’s making a classic vanilla, her most popular, Italian Jane, the center chock full of Italian buttercream and topped with pecans, or the Brewhouse pound cake filled with Shiner beer buttercream and garnished with peanuts, one thing is unwavering: their commitment to quality. Like her great-grandmother who taught her the art of pound cake perfection, Janie insists on using nothing but the freshness ingredients, including farm-fresh, grade-A eggs from free-range chickens, creamery butter, pure cane sugar (no corn syrup) and vanilla, and absolutely no preservatives. Then she takes her cakes over the top by filling their centers with premium buttercream frosting so every slice is generously iced!

Meet The Owner

Janie’s Cakes founder Janie Clapp learned her craft from her great-grandmother, “Papu.” With Papu, it was all about “a pinch of this and a dash of that”–very little measuring, a whole lot of instinct. Janie deepened her culinary skills at the Culinary Institute of America before opening her little bakery on a side street in Tyler, Texas in 1987. Before long, Tyler folks were telling other folks about this all-natural pound cake that had a taste somewhere just south of heaven. Today, with the help of her daughter Katherine, Janie continues mixing up some of the best pound cakes around.
