You’ll taste something distinctly better in La Fournette’s French baked goods. That’s because more than a century of family bakery experience and nothing but the finest natural ingredients go into every macaron and other delicacy from this Chicago bakery. Founded in 2012, its success is due to its owners, the Zimmermanns, who closed their 110-year-old bakery in France’s Alsace region to establish themselves in the US. To ensure their customers enjoy the same quality and small-town welcome that they offered in Schnersheim, France, they spent years researching and planning before opening. One taste of their macarons and you’ll agree La Fournette was more than worth the wait.

About The Food

Respectful of traditions of cooking seasonally with local ingredients, La Fournette uses only the very best all-natural ingredients for their out-of-this-world macarons, right down to using beet juice instead of artificial color. As with the artisan boutiques that surround them at their original location in Chicago’s Old Town, their almond-meringue-based confections are affordable, accessible, and abundantly beautiful and delicious. If you want an authentic taste of France, this is it.

Bonus: La Fournette's macarons are made with 100% Gluten-Free ingredients! However, the macarons are baked in a facility that primarily produces bread (La Fournette is an artisan bakery!). So while every effort is made to prevent cross contamination, we cannot guarantee that the Macarons are completely gluten free.

Meet The Owners

La Fournette is lovingly run by husband-and-wife team Pierre and Michele Zimmermann, who sold the boulangerie that had been in their family for 110 years in Schnersheim, France, to start anew in Chicago. Pierre, who’s garnered the “World Baking Champion” title by winning the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie in 1996 and 2008, taught L'Art de la Boulangerie at Chicago's French Pastry School, and saw how this great American city was underserved in artisan baked goods. He seized the opportunity to share the bountiful delights of small-town France in his favorite American city and today, he oversees the booming bakery with his sons and his wife, Michele.
