Meet The Owner

Founder Umber Ahmad learned the magic of flavors during a childhood filled with different cultures and regions. She continued to travel and enjoy distinct tastes around the world while developing a career in finance helping luxury brands, famous chefs, and restaurateurs expand their concepts globally. The subject of “Risk|Reward,” a critically acclaimed 2002 TriBeCa Film Festival-premiered documentary film about women on Wall Street, Umber launched Mah-Ze-Dahr with NYC’s famed chef and restaurateur Tom Colicchio. Her pastry-chef partner, French Culinary Institute graduate Shelley Barbera, refined her skills at the The Four Seasons Hotel New York City, L’Atelier Joël Robuchon, Le Bernardin, Aldea, and three-Michelin-starred Brooklyn Fare before bringing her talent and passion for her craft to Mah-Ze-Dahr.
