Back Next Valentine's Day!

Zac Young’s favorite holiday had always been Thanksgiving, a time for family and food. When it comes to dessert, he wants it all; however fitting a Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, and Spice Cake on one plate is challenging. So, the idea was born; create a dessert that had all his favorites in one slice! As delicious on the eyes as it is in your mouth, this iconic “mashup” is truly the bomb. As Kelly Ripa said, “this is pretty much the greatest thing that has happened to me, besides the birth of my children.” We think you’ll agree.

About The Food

The idea of pies and cakes co-existing is not a new one, it has long been the subject of internet lure. Instead of following suit with early versions which featured pies baked into cakes, Zac called on his French pastry training and love of American comfort food to create a more refined multi-layered dessert. It starts with a gooey pecan pie with lots of vanilla and Texas pecans. Then comes a classic pumpkin pie with a hint of ginger and cinnamon. Next, buttermilk spice cake with allspice and nutmeg that is topped with sweet and tart apple pie filling. Finally, the layers are bound together with cinnamon buttercream and coated with crunchy oat crumble.

Meet The Creator

Named one of the Top Ten Pastry Chefs in America 2015, Zac Young is known for his playful takes on American desserts. As the Pastry Director of Craveable Hospitality Group, he oversees the dessert creations of 13 unique concepts, including David Burke fabrick at Archer Hotel New York, David Burke Kitchen, Spyglass and Jimmy Rooftop Lounges, and Trilogy at Silverspot Cinemas as well as fast causal brands Handwich Shop, Caputo Pizzaria and Bacon Bar. His career began on the opening team of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery, followed by four years working as Chef Alex Gaurnaschelli’s Pastry Chef at her New York hot spot, Butter. Always hungry for more, Zac trained in France under Philipe Givre at Valrhona and Philipe Park at Chocolate Michel Cluizel. Upon returning to New York, Zac started a Donut Revolution with his dessert program at Flex Mussel Restaurants, making the New York Times list of the Best Donuts in NYC. He achieved national notoriety with his Final Four finish on the inaugural season of Top Chef: Just Desserts. His signature wit and pastry wisdom is showcased on The Cooking Channel’s longest running show, “Unique Sweets” and as regular guest judge on Food Network shows such as “Chopped”, “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Worst Cooks in America”.

A holiday miracle!

Urban Daddy

It sounds like a figment of some weird Thanksgiving fever dream, but it’s real: three types of pie stuffed in a cake. And social media has unexpectedly crowned it as the next big thing on Thanksgiving dessert tables, a space typically reserved for the just-the-basics trifecta of pumpkin, apple or pecan pie.
