Not everything from Texas is big. The idea for tiny pies came from Andrew, Amanda Bates’ son who wanted a pie he could easily transport to school and eat at school. From that aha moment mother and daughter Kit Seay and Amanda Bates of Austin Texas knew they had to make tiny pies. After creating their signature single serving pies, they launched their business in Austin in 2011 selling tiny pies at the Barton Creek Farmers’ Market. In 2014 they opened their first shop, and in 2016 a second shop. Their offerings grew, from hand pies both sweet and savory to Mason jar pies and even whole pies. A favorite at wedding receptions, their pies are just like grandma used to make, only smaller.

About The Food

Tiny Pies are made from old family recipes with the highest quality natural ingredients sourced from local farms, whenever possible. The pies are seasonal, all vegetarian and have no added preservatives. In addition to a classic sour cherry pie and an apple pie sure to please purists, they also offer their own creation, the Texas Two Step—a combination of rich dark chocolate brownie and honest to goodness Texas pecan pie layered into a crisp flaky crust. These are single serving pies you don’t have to share, delicious at room temperature or gently heated.

Meet The Owner

Mother and daughter Kit Seay and Amanda Bates have lived in Texas for over 40 years and have been baking pies together since Amanda was a child, using old family recipes. Kit Seay was a house director at the Tri Delta sorority at the University of Texas in Austin, and Amanda, a single mom, had a real estate career. After ten years as a stay-at-home mom, one of Amanda’s boys requested an individual pie he could take to school for lunch. What started at the kitchen table has grown into two thriving pie shops serving up (and shipping nationwide) tiny pies with big flavor.
